Propolis<\/strong>, together with honey, is one of the best known and most appreciated gifts<\/strong> from our bees. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
It is in fact a prodigious<\/strong> resinous<\/strong> substance<\/strong> that is collected from the buds<\/strong> and bark<\/strong> of some plants. <\/span><\/p>\n
In particular, those rich in resins and balms such as: poplars, firs, elms, oaks, chestnuts, willows and cherry trees,<\/em><\/strong> to name a few. After collecting it, the bees mix it with their saliva<\/strong>, wax<\/strong> and pollen<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Its composition<\/strong> is very varied, in fact it depends on both the flora and the harvesting season<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n
The same goes for both color<\/strong>: it can vary from yellow to green to red, to brown and black<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n
The flavor<\/strong>, consequently, will range from sour-bitter to sweet<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n
Propolis<\/strong> is used precisely by bees for its antibacterial<\/strong><\/em> and antifungal<\/strong><\/em> biological properties to sterilize the hive<\/em>, especially the cells before the queen lays her eggs. <\/span><\/p>\n
It is also used to close holes<\/strong> and cracks and “paint” them so as to make them immune to bacterial attacks. It also acts as a thermal insulator during the cold winter months. <\/span><\/p>\n

Its name, in fact, derives from the Greek “pro<\/strong>” and “polis<\/strong>“, that is “in front of the city”, in defense of the city.<\/strong> By transferring its meaning to us, propolis is in defense of our city, that is, our organism<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Its use dates back to very ancient times: in Egypt<\/strong> it was used for mummification<\/em><\/strong>, the Greeks<\/strong> and Romans<\/strong> collected it for its healing effects<\/em><\/strong> for sores<\/em> and wounds<\/em> and in South America<\/strong> the Incas<\/strong><\/em> used it to lower body temperature in case of fever<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
